Teaching English
is one of the most pleasing things I can do, many people enjoy and loves doing
different things like sport, science, Math, music, History, Psychology, etc.; and
is through life that you can find one of those passions that you never thought
you had, to build and instruct students to achieve the goals you have already
done or you are working on, the impact you can generate on students’ lives and
the experience and love you’ve got to continue studying and finding the best
way to teach and learn English.
I believe
that teachers are models to follow, giving courage and sharing the knowledge
they’ve got to teach it in a much easier way, giving the motivation so they don’t
give up along the way, being patient and knowing that each student has his own
pass to learn, giving the necessary tools to learn, taking into account values
and team work, and building a learning community where learners can search and
find their goals by themselves constructing an endlessly self-learning knowledge
in the English language.
Teaching the
different skills and above all the speaking skill was one of the principles
done during the English sessions, many students are shy to speak and they think
they speak awful and feel very ashamed to do it, I encouraged to do it and I
showed them how good they are, many students have very good voice and tone and the English language sounds wonderful, I told them to imagine how they'd speak if they improve more the speaking skill.
Teaching in learning environment is not the
same as to face to face, in school you educate, but teaching online is a
training process. I remember I was very concerned with my first online
teaching, wondering what I’d do in such a situation I’d have during the
lessons, but little by little you start getting used to and manage to give
feedback and turns for each participant. Some students never participated, most
of them are married and with children, most students work very hard and then
they have to attend the classes tired but with wiliness to learn and got a
degree. Sometimes is hard to be in front of a computer for two hours, students
get tired very soon and is important to teach in a dynamic way. I can say that
learning online is great, and teaching a foreign language through a virtual
tool or using some applications to learn English is very meaningful and of
great help.
My principles about teaching speaking online
are:
Avoid boredom in class: teach in an appealing
way, since students want to learn a lot and they set apart a time to study,
make them feel they’re not wasting time.
Plan before the class: it’s very important to
plan the class and don’t improvise because students will feel the “gap” and a
deep silence during the class.
Think before you teach: some students ask
questions about the topic to prove the teacher, be careful when you give an
answer to a student.
Speak the necessary: allow students to speak
most of the time, correct them at any time is possible and make them feel they’re
improving.
Motivation in class: always motivate students, tell
them they are improving during the classes, if they are not improving enough,
let them know where they’ve failed and cheer them as much as you can.
Give feedback and assessment: students have
their turns to participate, don’t miss or skip the change to correct their
mistake and assess what they learnt on the lesson.
My learners were in total 20 students, olny 15 students actively participated though.
These list of students learnt more about English topics, pronunciation, and reading. They advanced and feel very motivated to continue learning more.My learners were in total 20 students, olny 15 students actively participated though.

I had problems with the use of hangout Google and I have to let the
students speak more because it is a speaking session. I wasn’t able to help one
student (his names is Jose) because I was afraid of not making the recording.
I have to correct a lot my students. I have to improve a lot and I have to be
more dynamic, it wasn’t good enough for me for sure.

I didn’t have problems with hangout Google, and students did
participate more, it lasted almost two hours. I would like it to be more

should use Skype.

Students are not creative or are afraid of talking in English, so I
found that the best way to practice speaking is by reading a text. Eliceo,
Rosario, Zuleyka, Gissela, Ronal, Jose Santos (he tried but he had problems
to get in), Jimy, leidy jhoanna, and Lina Maria.

|
The final exam taken by some students, others had the exam through
Skype.

The sessions I liked the most were: So and neither with be and do, and Future tenses. Students understood these topics easily. The most difficult topics for them were: Conditionals, and could have-should have, might have-must have.
I didn't designed any didactic material, but I used sources from Internet such as images, stories, and English topics:
Too Vs Enough
Future present progressive
Conclusion
Learning English and then becoming a student teacher
has been a great experience in my life, many experiences and reflections of my
teaching development, meeting new people and getting more knowledge and advice
from those who wants to be better and grow in order to help others.
I remember my teaching practice in school last
year, and I can say that there’s no comparison between these two models of
teaching. My online practice was very meaningful, I learnt from my students and
from myself, in this kind of group you see students very motivated to learn and
expecting a lot, and students wonder who will be the tutor and what his/her English
level will be like, they want to participate and be proved at stage, they want
and need to be recognized and assed by someone who tells them in what aspect
they have to improve, you also have to allow them to speak and at the same time
be corrected. I know I made some mistakes, first of all because of my lack of time
to plan very well my English lessons, I still have to improve more my four
language skills and it’s something what I’m struggling with.
Teaching online requires some expertise on tech
and didactic materials, avoid the silence, it’s like speaking in a radio
station, if nobody speak, people will feel that something is going wrong, it
creates insecurity and an environment of doubt and hesitation. Also keep in a
positive attitude, don’t complain as many students teachers did. Also use
different tools to communicate such as WhatsApp, Skype, and Google.
I want to thank to God and to the UNAD
university for giving me the opportunity to study and have this amazing
experience in my life. Thanks to the tutor Liliana and my students for those
comments that pull me out the ground to continue growing in my professional development.
